kandaka
A humble trial to share my thoughts and feelings about the women's role in the Sudanese revolution of 2019. I was there, witnessing the courage and resilience of the Sudanese women, who led the protests and sit-ins against the oppressive regime that had ruled for 30 years.
I tried to capture their spirit and their stories in my photos, to show the world how they fought for freedom and dignity.
You will see the faces of the Kandakas, the Nubian queens who inspired the women's movement. You will see their smiles, their tears, their chants, their signs, their art, their solidarity. You will see how they challenged the stereotypes and norms that had confined them for so long. You will see how they reclaimed their space and their voice in the public sphere.
I hope you enjoy this album as much as I enjoyed making it. I hope it gives you a glimpse of the power and beauty of the Sudanese women. I hope it makes you proud of what they achieved and hopeful for what they can do in the future.
